Planning

Chart Navigator Pro makes it easier to plan your next cruising adventure with features like chart quilting, multi-level undo, integrated gazetteer, geo-referenced Coast Pilot, and route obstacle detection. Connect to the Internet, and you can download the latest weather forecasts and charts.

Creating Routes is as easy as clicking a mouse. Click, and you've created a waypoint. Click again, and you're creating a route. It's that easy. Routes and other Navigation Documents can be shared between home, boat and friends computers.

With chart quilting, there's no need to figure out which charts to open. Just zoom in and out, and the right charts will appear seamlessly quilted together.

Don't worry about making mistakes as you modify your route plan since you can always undo like you can in other Windows programs.
Typical Planning Mode Screen
The gazetteer includes millions of places that you can quickly look up using the "search box" in the toolbar.

Tides and Currents display right on charts or in their own separate window.

The US Coast Pilot is tightly integrated. Just click on a chart location to find out what the Coast Pilot has to say!

Obstacles along your route are pointed out to you as you are planning to help you plan a safe trip.

Navigation

Navigation is made easier with Chart Navigator Pro's full-screen Cruise Mode which replaces the standard Windows menus and toolbars with big fat buttons that are much easier to use while underway.

See your real-time GPS Position right on the screen. The boat position can be viewed in Look Ahead, Follow Boat, or the unique Follow Leg-Line mode which automatically scrolls and zooms to fill the screen with the current leg.

Orient the chart by North Up, Heading Up, or Course Up. Voice Alerts are used to warn you of waypoint arrivals, depths out of range, and even charted obstacles along your path!

Split the screen into two or three charts with a single key or button press. There's no need to resize or rearrange windows; Chart Navigator Pro takes care of it for you!

The Day, Twilight, and Night Modes are designed to help you see in all light conditions.

Chart Navigator Pro interfaces with standard GPS receivers as well as advanced instruments including: autopilots; sensors for depth, speed, temperature, and wind; RADAR (ARPA/MARPA); and AIS receivers. Virtual Instrument panels show you information from your instruments in large, easy-to-see displays.

Charts

Charts - The entire U.S. Coastline is included

Chart Navigator Pro includes the entire U.S. coastline on 18 DVDs. If you're new to PC navigation, this should be easy to grasp. If you're an old PC salt, welcome to simplicity. There are no U.S. "regions" or "unlocks" to worry about - every chart for the U.S. coastline is included.

Raster Charts Raster and Vector charts quilted together.

Photo Charts high-resolution photo chart.

Weather Connect your PC to the Internet and Chart Navigator Pro can download the latest graphical and text weather forecasts.

Topographic maps

Contour 3D Charts displaying the boat position in 3D

The cartography includes the Atlantic Coast, Gulf Coast, Major Inland Waterways and the U.S. waters in the Great Lakes as well as the Pacific Coast, Alaska and Hawaii. These aren't overview charts - they include the most detailed ones Maptech and NOAA has to offer.

Features

Virtual Instruments

Chart Navigator Pro displays the information you want to see in the way you want to see it. Here are just some of the Virtual Instrument Panels that are available. Note that some of these panels require additional hardware. For example, the wind speed display requires connecting a wind instrument to your PC.
AIS Targets

Requires an AIS Transponder or Receiver outputting NMEA 0183 data to your PC. Chart Navigator Pro will display other vessels right on the chart and track their progress in real-time. It will even calculate whether or not you are on a collision course and tell you (on the screen and with a voice alert) how much time you have to change course.
Other AIS features include:

  • Graphical display of AIS vessel orientation and past track

  • Dynamic list of all known AIS vessels including their MMSI number, name, position, closest point of approach (CPA) and the time to CPA, speed, course, heading, range, bearing, destination, ETA, and navigational status

  • Each vessel may be assigned its own icon and track colors

  • Search for other vessels by name

ARPA/MARPA Radar Targets
If you have an ARPA/MARPA enabled radar that outputs standard NMEA 0183, you can connect it to your PC.

Chart Navigator Pro is designed to receive the following types of information from a ARPA/MARPA radar:

  • Valid target

  • Dangerous target

  • Harmless target

  • Target CPA / TCPA / COG / Speed / Range

It then plots the standard symbols for these targets on top of the chart. For example, it plots a Triangle for a dangerous target.

Important Note: Chart Navigator Pro does not overlay radar images themselves on top of charts. It only overlays ARPA/MARPA targets.

Definitions and additional information:
ARPA: Automatic Radar Plotting Aid
MARPA: Mini ARPA
CPA: Closest Point of Approach
TCPA: Time to CPA
COG: Course Over Ground
